Libyan giants Al-Ittihad SC have joined the race for the services of highly sought-after Young Africans striker Clement Mzize, Foot Africa can exclusively reveal.
The 21-year-old frontman, who rose through the Yanga development ranks has been in top form for club and country, which caught the eye of a host of clubs on the African continent and in the Gulf region.
Mzize netted 14 goals in the Tanzanian Premier League last season, helping the Yanga to a fourth consecutive league title. Meanwhile, he scored three goals in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Qatar Stars League teams Al Sadd and Al Duhail, Egyptian clubs, including Zamalek SC and Al Masry, Tunisian juggernauts Esperance de Tunis and an unnamed club in the Saudi Pro League, have all expressed interest on bringing the player on board.
Moreover, South African giants Kaizer Chiefs were heavily linked with Mzize’s services, with coach Nasreddine Nabi said to be keen on a reunion with the lethal forward, as they worked together in Dar es Salaam.
However, recently, Esperance were reportedly close to finalizing a deal to lure the Tanzanian international to Tunis. But recent reports emerging from Tanzania suggest that the deal is on the verge of collapsing as Yanga rebuffed a bid worth in excess of $1 million from the Taraji.
Now, an impeccable source from Libya has informed Foot Africa that Ittihad have registered concrete interest on landing Mzize’s signature, as they made contact with the center forward’s entourage to explore deal conditions.
Sources have indicated that personal terms are expected to be a problem between the two parties, with the Tripoli-based outfit determined to offer the player a lucrative contract in addition to paying a hefty transfer fee to facilitate a move to the Libyan Premier League.
