Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad have reignited their interest in Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah, reports The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Egypt international was linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian club at the start of August, but his agent rejected the idea.
Al-Ittihad are not giving up on the Liverpool star, but it is unclear how the 31-year-old feels about joining them and whether a deal could materialise.
The club are interested in having Salah in the squad for their 2023 Club World Cup campaign, hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2023 and 2024.
Al-Ittihad could make Salah the highest-paid player in the league, or at least match Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary, and offer a record transfer fee.
Salah is not an achievable target for the Saudis this year after signing a new three-year contract last summer, which made him the highest-paid player in the club’s history at around £350,000 per week.
Liverpool have unofficially briefed the press that Salah is not for sale this late in the transfer window – but there will be plenty of gossip around Salah until the summer transfer window ends.
A move could be possible next summer if Liverpool fail to secure Champions League football for the second season running – cashing out on Salah and reinvesting in the club would make a lot of sense then.
If Salah leaves this summer – Liverpool fans are certain to openly revolt against the owners.
Having lost out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea, Liverpool will not want to end the summer having failed to sign their transfer targets and losing their star player.
