Egyptian football icon Magdy Abdel Ghany's voiced strong criticism of Al Ahly's performance at the start of the 2025 fifa club world cup in the US saying the team failed to rise to the occasion.
Speaking to Egyptian TV, the former Al Ahly & Pharaohs star said the Cairo giants wasted golden opportunity to start strong after draw with Inter Miami which could have secured early control of the group.
Abdel Ghany hinted at unrest inside the dressing room saying reports suggest the training camp lacked cohesion which clearly reflected on the team’s sluggish display.

He also criticized the team’s inability to capitalize on their chances during the clash with FC Porto adding:
"That game could have been historic win but the finishing lacked sharpness"
Despite the global disappointment, Abdel Ghany remains confident that Al Ahly'll cruise through the EPL citing the lack of serious rivals and the club’s solid structure & depth.
He praised the signings of Ahmed Mostafa Zizo & Achraf Bencharki calling for their inclusion in the starting lineup while also recommending Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet as the team’s primary playmaker.
In humorous to underline his point, he concluded:
"Any coach can win the league with this Al Ahly team.. even the kit man, Hareth (Al Ahly worker)"
