After two league wins from two, new manager John van ‘t Schip suggested he’d increased confidence in the current Ajax squad after a poor start to the season.

However, the Amsterdam giants let a potential comeback win slip away in the dying moments against Almere.

Following a goalless first half, Jochem Ritmeester van de Kamp opened the scoring after rounding goalkeeper Diant Ramaj.

Yet within seconds, Chuba Akpom became the first ever Ajax player to net three consecutive Eredivisie goals as a substitute after equalisng with his first touch.

The visitors then had a second name off the bench find the net when Benjamin Tahirović blasted home his first for the club from inside the box.

But Ajax couldn’t stay composed in the final seconds, with a 93rd-minute penalty from Thomas Robinet ensuring the clubs split the points.

The result ended the club’s winning streak in the league and they’re also coming off a loss in the UEFA Champions League.  Sitting in 12th, how high can Van ‘t Schip bring them?
