Jurrien Timber has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract with Ajax.

Many expected the 21-year-old to leave the Amsterdam club this summer with Erik ten Hag extremely interested in bringing him to Manchester United with him.

However, reports emerged early in the window that, to ensure he starts for the Netherlands at the World Cup, he’d prefer to stay at Ajax where he’s guaranteed to be a key player.

Such a stay has now been guaranteed with the Eredivisie champions giving him a new contract that expires in the summer of 2025.

His previous deal expired in 2024, and while this new one of course doesn’t mean that he will definitely remain at the club until 2025, it does ensure that they’ll receive a huge amount of money for the defender should he leave before then.

If he continues to perform as well as he did last season and impresses at the World Cup, it’s likely that top clubs will come knocking sooner rather than later.
