The international break is set to have a negative effect on Ajax with Davy Klaassen likely to miss Saturday’s trip to PEC Zwolle.

The midfielder excelled for the Netherlands in their recent World Cup qualifiers, but was forced to come off in the closing stages of the 6-1 win over Turkey on Tuesday.

Klaassen had opened the scoring in the first minute on home turf at the Johan Cruyff Arena, before providing two assists.

He was later troubled by a groin problem, and Voetbal International reports that Ajax will take no chances with his fitness.

The 28-year-old will instead focus on recovering in time to face Sporting CP in the Champions League in midweek.

Manager Erik ten Hag may also have to make do without Lisandro Martínez and Nicolás Tagliafico for the Eredivisie clash with basement side Zwolle.

Neither player featured for Argentina in their 3-0 win over Bolivia on Thursday, but their late return from Buenos Aires could see them rested as well.
