Ajax have completed the signing of Danish right-back Anton Gaaei from Viborg FF. The 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena, with the Dutch giants paying €4.5m plus add-ons. According to Florian Plettenberg, several clubs including Brighton, Rennes and PSV Eindhoven were interested in Gaaei. The Denmark U21 international is officially an Ajax player.

Gaaei has spent his entire career so far with Danish Superligaen side Viborg FF. The 2002-born player has featured 47 times for the first team, scoring one goal and providing seven assists. Gaaei is expected to be the successor to Jorge Sánchez. The Mexican right-back, who joined Ajax from Club América last summer is already heading towards the exit door after falling down the pecking order at the club.

Anton Gaaei has become Ajax’s seventh signing of the summer. On Wednesday, the club confirmed the signing of Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough in a deal worth €14m. Ajax have also added the likes of Carlos Borges from Manchester City and Branco van den Boomen from Toulouse. The Amsterdam club are looking to challenge for the Eredivisie title once again after a disappointing campaign last season.
