Despite already having David Neres at their disposal, Ajax are now pursuing the player who is being touted as the man to fill his shoes.
Still just 22 himself, Neres could be joined by his compatriot in Amsterdam as his club’s hierarchy aim to add to their attack.
That has led them to São Paulo forward Antony, who is being tracked by a host of Europe’s major clubs, with one of them being Ajax, according to Globoesporte.
He is reportedly top of their wish list, rising to prominence with four goals and six assists in 29 games last season at the age of just 19.
However, he would be a costly addition as the Brazil Under-23 international’s contract runs until summer 2024 and includes a €50 million release clause.
That said, reports suggest that his club will settle for a deal between €20m-€30m for the forward which would still make him Ajax’s most expensive signing ever.
It will be tough to get a deal for Antony over the line though as interest in his services is extremely high.
In December, RB Leipzig had an €18m bid turned down, while Borussia Dortmund, Milan and Nice have all made inquiries.
