Ajax sack Erik ten Hag’s replacement Alfred Schreuder

Erik ten Hag did an incredible job at Ajax and the hierarchy would have known that finding a replacement was never going to be easy. They opted for Alfred Schreuder which has turned out to be a costly mistake.

At Manchester United, we couldn’t be more happy with the job Ten Hag has done to date. It’s almost February and the team is still fighting in four separate competitions, including the Premier League for a place in the top four.

The Eredivisie champions announced in a statement that they have sacked their manager, just months after hiring him as Ten Hag’s successor.

A statement from Ajax read: “Ajax has immediately suspended Alfred Schreuder. The trainer’s contract was valid until June 30, 2024, but will now be terminated immediately.

“The many points lost and the team’s lack of development are the main reasons for this decision.

“The club management no longer has confidence in further cooperation. The collaboration with assistant coach Matthias Kaltenbach will also be terminated.”

It says a lot about their stance on Schreuder that the statement was written so bluntly, and without a single thank you for his efforts.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and co will be tasked with finding a more suitable manager for the team than Schreuder.

We should probably try to poach Van der Sar away from Ajax once the takeover is complete, hopefully later this year. He would be a good candidate for a sporting director.
