Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder’s squad wrapped up their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Rangers on Tuesday.

Now looking ahead to the Europa League, the 50-year-old admitted his group is right where they need to be in Europe.

“In the end, I think we are where we belong. The other two teams were better at the moment and are also further developing,” he said post-match.

“Liverpool and Napoli were a size too big, we were a size too big for Rangers. Now we have to continue in the Europa League.”

Additionally, the manager offered insight into his decision to hand Devyne Rensch a few minutes against Rangers after the defender came on for Owen Wijjndal in the first half.

“Devyne hasn’t played in a while and I think he deserves minutes too,” said Schreuder.

“With a 2-0 lead, a game is normally played and we know that Devyne can also play as a left back.

“Whether the introduction was an omen for the top match against PSV next Sunday? No, not that. I just want to give everyone minutes so I have plenty of choice. After all, there are three important games to come.”

Looking ahead Eredivisie leaders Ajax face PSV Eindhoven on Saturday who sit only one point below them in the table.
