Ajax loanee Tristan Gooijer was seriously injured during his loan period at PEC Zwolle and is therefore doubting his future in Amsterdam. The youngster hopes to play some more minutes this season, but cannot guarantee when he will be back on the pitch.
Where Gooijer was still firmly knocking on the doors of Amsterdam last season under John van ‘t Schip, the defender did not seem to have to count on a prominent role within Ajax under Francesco Farioli. Gooijer left the capital for a loan period at PEC Zwolle, but immediately seriously injured his knee during his debut.
“Of course it has an impact on your future. Does Ajax want to continue with me? Is there a club that wants to rent me next season after such an injury? That is a small stress point. (…) I really hope that I can show this season that I am fit and can play.”
It is not yet entirely clear how long Gooijer will be out of action. “At the time I heard it, I did not yet fully realize what the consequences would be. Still, I want to give something back to the people here in Zwolle, they have supported me a lot. At the same time, I do not want to hope too much for playing time, because then it can only be disappointing.”
