Mateu Alemany is working round the clock to seal the final deals of the winter transfer window for Barcelona. Amongst these are the priority signings for the defence and attack departments.

One particular position of concern for Barcelona has been the left-back position. The lack of a direct competitor to Jordi Alba has made life difficult for the manager, and a solution is being sought. Of the options on the table, Nicolas Tagliafico has emerged as a prime candidate.

According to reports from ESPN, the Argentine left-back has communicated to Ajax that he wants to join Barcelona this month. Despite multiple clubs joining the race for his signature, Tagliafico has his heart set on the Blaugranas and does not wish to consider other offers.

Barcelona want the full-back to sign on loan with an option to purchase in the summer. Though Eric ten Hag is not in favour of the defender’s move away from Amsterdam, the club are said to be willing to part ways with the player. However, Ajax prefer a permanent transfer over a loan move.

Earlier today, it was reported that Joan Laporta is willing to include La Masia graduate Alejandro Balde in the deal. That would effectively make the operation a swap deal, with Ajax receiving the younger of the two left-backs.

Jordi Alba’s recent performances have sown a seed of doubt in the minds of many. Xavi does not trust Balde to replace the veteran Spaniard yet, and Tagliafico could work out as the perfect short-term option.
