Ajax are interested in signing two teenage Swedish talents, Williot Swedberg and Hugo Larsson, this summer according to a report from Fotbolldirekt.
19-year-old Swedberg only singed for Celta Vigo last summer from Hammarby IF but has mostly occupied a bench role for the La Liga outfit to date, only coming on in three games. This lack of game time could make him open to a move to Amsterdam in the near future.
A right-footed technically gifted attacking midfielder, he sounds exactly like a typical Ajax player and has been likened to former star Donny van de Beek, as well as Thomas Müller, for his ability to find space and be involved without the ball at his feet. High praise indeed.
With his contract running for another four years, it might prove difficult to prise the player away from Celta, however.
A deal for Larsson, a year younger than Swedberg, looks to be rather straightforward in comparison due to the fact he has yet to leave his homeland. He has broken into the Malmö FF side this year, starting in all four games of the club’s perfect league start, which seems them sit atop the Allsvenskan.
An asking price of roughly £7m pounds is rumoured, which should be of little issue to the Dutch giants.
If the moves materialise, the players would be following in the footsteps of arguably the greatest Swedish player of all time, Zlatan Ibrahimović. In the summer of 2001, Ibra swapped Malmö for Ajax (like Larsson could) in the first of many big-time moves during his still ongoing career.
It looks set to be another big summer at Ajax with the club at risk of missing out on Champions League football next season. Could two Swedes be part of the rebuild plan?
