Ajax suffered their first stumble of the Eredivisie season on Sunday after a 2-1 loss at NAC.
Scorers: Garbett 58′, Van den Bergh 90+1′; Hato 63′
After opening the 2024/25 campaign with a nervy victory over Heerenveen, Ajax failed to make it two wins from two as they look to rewrite their wrongs from last season.
The Eredivisie giants dominated the game at Rat Verlegh Stadion with 15 shots to five and 75% possession but failed to come from behind and walked away empty-handed.
NAC opened the scoring against the run of play after Matthew Garbett was allowed to run into Ajax’s box unmarked and slotted home beyond Remko Pasveer.
Jorrel Hato then managed to save the visitors on more than one occasion. The defender rose highest to head home an equaliser five minutes later and later cleared a potential NAC winner off the line.
However, a stunning 91st-minute winner courtesy of Jan Van den Bergh saw the hosts pull off a huge upset after he headed home a free-kick.
The result means Ajax sit ninth in the table and NAC are immediately behind in 10th. PSV Eindhoven currently occupy top spot.
