Ajax have announced that John Heitinga will stay in place as the club’s coach until at least the end of the season.
He extended his contract with the Amsterdam giants in mid-November until the summer of 2025, having been head coach of Jong Ajax since 2021.
Heitinga took charge of the 4-1 win against Excelsior over the weekend following the dismissal of Alfred Schreuder after a six-game winless run.
“We are convinced that this is the right solution. John follows a careful and gradual path, which has enabled him to develop very well as a trainer in recent years,” stated Edwin van der Sar.
“We have a lot of confidence in John’s qualities and the vision he expressed. It is now important that the team picks up a lot of points, gains confidence and develops quickly and well. We still have enough to fight for this season.”
Dwight Lodeweges has also been added to his staff and will serve as assistant coach.
