The champions got off to a perfect start as, within 15-minutes, Brian Brobbey fired them ahead from close range. The 20-year-old forward, who joined on loan from RB Leipzig in January, has now scored seven goals in 10 appearances.

Vitesse however werenā€™t in a celebratory mood, swinging the momentum as the first half drew to a close. If the break was a chance for Ten Hag to rally his troops it didnā€™t work as a quickfire double from LoĆÆs Openda put the hosts ahead.

The Belgian forward spurned two further great opportunities to extend Vitesseā€™s lead and, but for some lacklustre finishing and a woefully timed slip, the game wouldā€™ve been out of Ajaxā€™s reach.

As it was though, the champions were always going to have a chance. DuÅ”an Tadić tested Markus Schubert in the Vitesse goal before minutes later Mexico International Edson Ɓlvarez rose highest at the near post to draw the visitorā€™s level.

Both teams had chances to find a winner with Liam van Gelderen coming close and Ɓlvarez striking the crossbar in the final seconds. The game ended level though astTen Hagā€™s time as Ajax manager came to a close.
