Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars is scheduled to hold talks with Newcastle United.

The recently installed new owners of Newcastle are creating a new position for football director and have Overmars high on their list candidates.

Via Voetbalzone, Dutch pundit Valentijn Driessen said on Voetbalpraat: "It will anyway be concrete that will be spoken in the short term.

"If we want to have someone in the Netherlands, you only talk to the person you want. But in England it's something different, they talk to a number of candidates who are candidates. And Marc is one of them."

Overmars has openly admitted he could be on the move from Ajax next year.

And Driessen argues that Overmars knows he needs to leave Ajax now to fulfill his career ambitions. And the chance to start at the ground floor of a new era at Newcastle is understandably attractive to the Dutchman.

"Of course you sometimes hear something," continued the journalist. "That is a great new challenge. He has now been at Ajax for ten years, he has shown all the tricks there. And he also knows that with Ajax he will never become the new Bayern Munich, or the new Paris Saint-Germain and therein ultimately lies his challenge, to possibly do the trick again with a step to another club, but then to get even higher."

Overmars has past experience in England, having spent three years with Arsenal, where he won the Premier League and the FA Cup. The Dutchman first returned to Ajax in 2011 as a part-time youth coach, where he would work just one day a week.

However, he soon was promoted to director of football within 12 months.
