Dušan Tadić has been a commanding presence in Ajax’s squad since joining in 2018, but his time in Amsterdam could be coming to an end in the near future.

The 34-year-old’s contract currently runs until 2024, but when asked about whether or not he will extend with the Dutch giants the winger was fairly sheepish about his future.

“I want to do my best for Ajax, I don’t look beyond that. I want to explain to young players how beautiful the club is, how important it is to win trophies and to play our football,” Tadić told Ajax magazine.

“So many legends have emerged at this club , there is so much culture in the club. We now represent that uniqueness. We have to be aware of that.”

Ajax are currently in a state of turmoil, sitting fourth in the league, only won their first Eredivisie game since October, and sacked manager Alfred Schreuder.

The chance of missing out on Champions League football is a true possibility, and when asked if that would factor into his extension or not, Tadić again brushed things off.

He did indicate, however, that what he and his team-mates achieved at the club over the last few seasons will go on to be remembered.

“I don’t want to think about that. I want to think positively, everyone should do that. Then I am convinced that we can also become champions this season.”

“If I stop [playing], people will realize what I have done. In ten years’ time, people will also realize what we have achieved as a team in recent years.”

The Serbian international has been a key figure this season despite Ajax’s position in the table, registering five goals and 12 assists in 26 matches across all competitions.

His overall record at the club sits as 97 goals and 103 assists in 220 matches – figures the club will surely miss if he decides to depart.
