Ligue 1 new boys AC Ajaccio are continuing negotiations with French 2nd division club Le Havre over the possible transfer of 26-year-old Congolese international central defender Fernand Mayembo, according to L’Équipe.

HAC have removed the player from the 1st team squad during the 1st portion of their pre-season camp, with the full expectation that Mayembo will be sold in the coming days.

The problem for Le Havre at this juncture is that ACA have virtually no funds to be able to acquire players with during the summer transfer window, focusing largely on free transfer deals including the signings of winger Romain Hamouma (St Étienne) and midfielder Thomas Mangani (Angers) so far.

HAC want around €2.5m in order to sell the player, and the Corsicans are unlikely to be able to offer more than €1m. At the moment, Le Havre don’t have any other serious bidders, meaning they are facing the prospect of accepting a low-fee sale. Talks will continue between the two clubs in the coming days.
