Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka has emerged as one of the candidates to take over the Spain national team job.
La Roja were thrown into chaos on the eve of the World Cup when former coach Julen Lopetegui was sacked and replaced by Fernando Hierro.
The 2010 winners were understandably rocked by the decision, and failed to live up to expectations in Russia.
A round of 16 knock out to the hosts was all they could show for, and it’s widely believed that the Federation are on the hunt for a new permanent tactician.
Luis Enrique was believed to be a leading candidate, however Mundo Deportivo have suggested on Thursday that Karanka is in fact one of the names highest on their shortlist.
His previous work with the national set-up’s Under-16 side back in 2010 means he has a high regard amongst the corridors of power at the Federation and is thought to be keen on taking over for the Euro 2020 qualification.
