Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati has been named the 2023 The Best FIFA Women's Player, adding to her growing list of individual awards.

Having already claimed a World Cup Golden Ball, UEFA Women's Player of the Year and the Ballon d'Or, the 25-year-old beat fellow nominees Linda Caicedo and Jenni Hermoso to claim the prize for the first time in her career.

Bonmati was the leading favourite to take home the gong, having won the World Cup with Spain alongside a treble at club level with Barca.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bonmati said: "It's been an incredible and unique year that I will remember for the rest of my life. I owe this to the team that I play with them: Barcelona and the national team. Without my teammates I would not be here picking up these awards. I will always be thankful to those who have not failed me: my family and my friends.

"I want to congratulate all the nominees and say that I am proud of being part of a powerful generation of women who are changing the rules of the game."

Bonmati previously picked up the Ballon d'Or Feminin back in October, beating a host of England stars including Rachel Daly, Millie Bright, Mary Earps and Georgia Stanway, after winning Liga F and the Champions League.

She was also an integral part of the Spain squad that lifted the World Cup in August against the odds after a dispute between players and management, being named the best player at the tournament.

Bonmati succeeds fellow Spaniard Alexia Putellas as the latest winner of the Best FIFA Women's Player. Her Barcelona teammate had claimed the award in both 2021 and 2022, with Lucy Bronze successful back in 2020.
