SANDY, Utah – CS Herediano earned a 2-1 victory at Real Salt Lake in the second leg of their Round One series, winning 2-1 on aggregate, as the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup continued Wednesday at America First Field in Sandy, Utah, USA.
The two sides played to a nil-nil draw in Costa Rica last week, leaving everything to play for in the United States. Herediano advances to the Round of 16 to face reigning MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy.
Forster Ajago opened the scoring in the 27', running into the box to meet a cross from Dominik Marczuk.
Marczuk attempted another threatening ball from the right side of the field in the 43’ but was intercepted by the Herediano goalkeeper, Dany Carvajal.
Elías Aguilar equalized for Herediano in the 70' with an exquisite left-footed touch inside the box to connect on a service from Randy Vega. Allan Cruz started the play after recovering the ball in the final third.
Vega converted from the penalty spot in the 90’+9 to place the Florenses up 2-1 and win the series outright. Vega drew the penalty opportunity on a counterattack following an RSL free kick chance on the other end.
CS Herediano advanced to the Round of 16 for the second consecutive edition. The Costa Rican side will attempt to return to the quarterfinals, where its 2024 campaign ended against eventual champions CF Pachuca.
