Sergio Aguero has reportedly reached an ‘agreement’ with Barcelona over a free transfer move from Manchester City this summer with the forward set to sign a two-year contract at the Camp Nou.

Aguero will leave Manchester City at the expiry of his contract this summer following a decade of service at the Etihad, the Argentina international having won five Premier League titles and scored a club-record 258 goals in all competitions.

The 32-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months, though Barcelona emerged as early frontrunners for his signature and are now reportedly close to confirming a deal.

According to Eurosport, Aguero and his agent have held positive talks with the Spanish giants and have come to an agreement over a two-year deal, the forward set to link up with long-time friend and international teammate Lionel Messi in Catalonia.

Messi’s future remains uncertain but it is hoped the signing of Aguero can convince the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to remain with the club beyond the summer, with Barcelona having been in desperate need of centre-forward reinforcements after allowing Luis Suarez to leave for Atletico Madrid last summer.

Barcelona’s concerning finances has increased the need for cost-efficient methods of strengthening and the free transfer signing of Aguero adds both experience and quality to their options, the star the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history.

Ronald Koeman’s side have also been linked with Aguero’s out-of-contract City teammate Eric Garcia, whilst Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is another reported target as he approaches the end of his contract at Anfield.
