FC Bayern has apparently reached an agreement with Burnley on a transfer fee for Vincent Kompany. This means that the 38-year-old Belgian will become the Munich club’s new coach.
Vincent Kompany and FC Bayern had already agreed on a future partnership, but the Munich club still had to negotiate a transfer fee with his current employer Burnley FC. According to Sky, the two clubs have now successfully concluded the negotiations. According to the report, Bayern will pay the relegated English Premier League side between 10 and 12 million euros for Kompany. The 38-year-old Belgian still had a contract with Burnley until 2028.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also announced the agreement. According to his information, the agreed transfer fee is 12 million euros.
Kompany will now become the new Bayern coach. The former top defender and the German record champions had already agreed on a three-year contract. Now all that is missing is Kompany’s signature under the contract.
Kompany’s future coaching team has also been finalised. The BILD had reported: Floribert Ngalula will be assistant coach, Bram Geers will be athletics coach. In addition, René Maric will become Kompany’s assistant. The 31-year-old is currently coach of Bayern’s U19 team. Maric and Kompany completed the football coaching course in Belgium together. The two therefore know each other very well and appreciate each other.
Kompany already worked with Ngalula and Geers at his former club FC Burnley.
The Kompany deal puts an end to FC Bayern’s long search for a coach. Several coaches such as Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Oliver Glasner and Roger Schmidt had previously turned the German record champions down. Negotiations were also held for Thomas Tuchel to stay on as coach, but no agreement was reached here either.
Kompany was relegated from the Premier League with Burnley this season. The season before, however, he also managed promotion to the English top flight with the club. He previously coached RSC Anderlecht in his home country of Belgium. Kompany had also started his professional career as a player there. He moved from Anderlecht to Hamburger SV in 2006. Kompany still speaks good German from his time in the Hanseatic city.
After two years in the Hanseatic city, the defender moved to Manchester City in 2008, where he stayed for a total of eleven years. At the Skyblues, he was particularly influenced by coach Pep Guardiola. Kompany moved from Manchester back to Anderlecht in 2019, where he first worked as a player coach and then as head coach.
After his stint at Burnley, Kompany is now ready for the next chapter as coach of FC Bayern.
