Birmingham City are set to add to their goalkeeping options after they reached an agreement to bring in a Premier League club’s goalkeeper, according to journalist Mike McGrath.
Blues smashed records in League One this season and wasted no time in getting back up to the Championship.
After splashing the cash last summer on the likes of Jay Stansfield, Scott Wright and Alfie May, amongst others, they are again expected to invest this summer.
One former EFL star has dubbed them ‘even more Premier League’ than Ipswich Town were when they went up from League One, subsequently winning promotion once again.
Blues boss Chris Davies is moving to bring in another goalkeeper and he is set to do so after an ‘agreement reached’ with Brighton for James Beadle.
Beadle was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season and knows all about the demands of the Championship.
He is now set to sign for Birmingham on a season-long loan deal.
Just 20 years old, Beadle made 38 appearances in the Championship under Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday last term.
He only managed to keep nine clean sheets though as a leaky Owls backline saw him concede 59 times.
Birmingham were hugely defensively solid in League One last term and let in just 31 goals in their 46 league outings.
It was the best defensive record in the division, but Blues boss Davies wants to upgrade his options to cope with the higher level.
Beadle is viewed as a highly rated young shot-stopper and all eyes will be on how he manages expectations while at Birmingham.
It is unclear whether Blues will have any option to keep hold of the custodian on a permanent basis if he does impress at St. Andrew’s.
Beadle has been capped by England at multiple youth international levels, right through to the Under-21s.
