Arsenal are once again being linked with a move for Marco Asensio with his agents reportedly heading to London this weeks for talks.

As summer transfer gossip replaces the winter, rumours of a possible move for Marco Asensio have begun to circulate.

With his contract at Real Madrid set to expire this summer, the 27-year-old attacking midfielder has attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta, the current manager of the Gunners, is said to be a fan of Asensio and his agents are expected to fly to London this week to discuss potential offers from Premier League clubs.

Real Madrid, however, has yet to make a decision on Asensio’s future with the club and are expected to wait until March or April to extend or not extend his current deal.

Asensio is reportedly looking for a four-year contract with a higher wage than his current £118,000 per week in Madrid. Despite recent improvements in his form and minutes on the pitch under manager Carlo Ancelotti, there are still no guarantees from the club that Asensio will be a part of their long-term plans.

On the other hand, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is a known admirer of the player and has expressed his admiration to Asensio. If the Spaniard continues to perform well, it could increase interest in him from clubs across Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain who tried to sign him in the January transfer window.

The main obstacle for Asensio’s potential move to Arsenal may be the financial aspect of the contract.

Currently, only six players at Arsenal earn more than Asensio’s £110k per week, with Gabriel Jesus being the highest on £265k. Despite this, Arteta may still be willing to bring Asensio to the Emirates Stadium as two of the three senior players signed by the Gunners in the summer already earn more than £150k per week.

For now, Asensio’s immediate focus remains on Real Madrid. The future of the attacking midfielder remains uncertain, but one thing is for sure, his agents’ visit to London this week will be closely watched by fans and clubs alike.

Asensio has four goals and five assists in 26 games this season, however, he averages just 37 minutes per game.
