Jorginho celebrates a goal during a pre-season friendly.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho will not be leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer, according to his agent, amid reports of interest from Fenerbahce.

The Italy international joined the Gunners in January from Premier League rivals Chelsea in a £12m deal with Arsenal leading the Premier League table at the time.

Jorginho signed an 18-month contract at the Emirates, with the option to extend for a further year, and the hope was that he could provide the experience needed to win the Premier League title.

Arsenal eventually allowed Manchester City to take the initiative in the Premier League title race with the Gunners finishing a respectable five points behind Pep Guardiola’s side, who have now won three league titles in a row.

And there have been rumours that Jorginho could now leave the club with Declan Rice arriving in the summer transfer window, while there has been reported interest from Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The Super Lig side have reportedly ‘asked Arsenal about the transfer conditions’ for Jorginho with a report claiming the Gunners are planning ‘a surprise exit in the coming days’.

But Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has insisted that his client will be going nowhere this summer despite the former Napoli midfielder having interest from some clubs.

Santos told TuttoMercatoWeb: “He will stay at Arsenal. He is happy to be in England. Let’s move on.”

When asked whether any other clubs apart from Fenerbahce had made an approach, Santos added: “Some rumours, for example from Saudi Arabia. Someone called me, but nothing concrete. Jorginho is also appreciated in Spain, he’s an important player. He will stay at Arsenal.”

It could be a wise choice by Jorginho to stay this summer with former Manchester United defender Gary Neville predicting that Arsenal could win the Premier League this term.

Neville said on The Overlap‘s preview of the new Premier League season: “I don’t think Arsenal could have done any more to close the gap. They’ve shown real intent with the signings they’ve made.

“My concern is they are the only team that I think could actually win the league. With the three signings they’ve made they’re going to be better.

“I look at the other teams and think, who is going to be better than last season? Chelsea will be naturally better with the manager coming in – and they couldn’t get any worse. I don’t look at Liverpool and think, ‘Wow they’re going to be challenging for the league’, I don’t look at United with what they’ve done so far.

“Unless United, Liverpool or Chelsea do something miraculous in the transfer window, Arsenal are the only team that could challenge City at this moment in time.

“I think they could get very close to them but I would still go City, just.”
