According to BILD’s Christian Falk, super-agent Pini Zahavi has planned to hold talks with Chelsea about the potential transfer of Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

Alaba made his debut for the Bavarian giants over a decade ago and over the years, he has become an undisputed starter for them while making nearly 400 competitive appearances.

The 29-year-old has made the vast majority of his appearances from the left-back position, but he has showed his versatility, having also impressed in the central midfield and central defensive positions.

Under manager Hansi Flick, he has formed a terrific partnership with Jerome Boateng at the heart of the defence, but it appears that both players could make way at the end of the campaign.

The reigning European champions have yet to open negotiations with Boateng over a possible extension beyond next summer, but talks with Alaba have all, but broken down.

Earlier this month, president Herbert Hainer confirmed that there was an unsatisfactory response from the defender and his representative and the club have decided to end the contract talks altogether.

Hence, it appears that Alaba could head out on a free transfer when his contract expires in June 2021 and he is therefore allowed to hold talks with overseas clubs at the turn of the year.

Zahavi has a close association with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, having helped the business magnate in the acquisition of the west London giants in 2003.

He has since helped the Blues in the purchase of numerous players including Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole, who were able to attain legendary status during their playing career at Stamford Bridge.

With him representing Alaba, a move for the Austrian to the Blues can’t be ruled out and it remains to be seen whether there is any breakthrough in the negotiations which are planned to be held in January.

Alaba would obviously want the assurance of a starting spot alongside club-record wages. Earlier in September, it was revealed that the defender was demanding a salary of nearly £400,000-a-week, as per The Athletic.
