The agent of Dani van den Heuvel has revealed that Illan Meslier’s immediate impact in the Leeds side played a huge part in the 17-year-old’s decision to leave Ajax this summer.
Newly-promoted Leeds announced the acquisition of the Netherlands youth international on Tuesday, signing the player to a three-year deal.
Despite spending three years in the Ajax academy and receiving a professional offer from the Dutch giants, van den Heuvel seeing a 20-year-old being thrust into the Leeds first-team ultimately made him choose to move to England.
“At Leeds, Dani has more prospects than at Ajax,” agent Daan Kramp told Voetbal International.
“The club’s first-team goalkeeper [Illan Meslier] is 20 years old. That indicates that they have an eye for young goalkeepers.
“The club really wants to invest in him and has a clear plan in mind. It’s a nice step for him.”
Leeds have now signed four young players in the current transfer window, adding Joe Gelhardt, Cody Drameh, and Charlie Allen to their ranks.
