Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Patrick Bamford still has a lot to prove despite his “outstanding” season with Leeds United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker delivered his verdict after it was reported the striker had extended his Elland Road contract.
The Athletic report Bamford has penned a one-year extension in secret that was only revealed by the FA’s recently published intermediary transactions list.
The Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds will confirm a new long-term deal for the striker in their end of season review.
Bamford has enjoyed his best-ever season with the Whites having scored 15 goals in 35 Premier League games.
“He’s done very well,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“People are going to look at it and think ‘You can do it next season? Can you do it two seasons in a row?’
“One season is great but can you do it for more than one season when people start to work out how you play.
“It will be interesting to see whether he can carry it on but this season he’s been outstanding.”
Prior to this campaign, Bamford had endured a torrid time in the Premier League with spells at Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Burnley and Middlesborough.
He scored just one goal in 27 top-flight appearances before this season.
At Leeds, he now has 41 goals and 17 assists in 107 games across all competitions meaning it is the club he has been the most successful at.
In other news, Leeds United have been backed to sign a newly-crowned Young Player of the Year as a £4million fee is touted.
