“After speaking with them…” – Top Chelsea insider gives his conclusion from meeting sporting directors

The interview which Matt Law dropped with Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart a month ago was a real surprise, as we’ve barely heard from the pair so far – and certainly haven’t seen an in depth interview like this.

We dealt with the content of the interview at the time, but now we’ve got something equally interesting – Law’s take on the pair themselves. It’s fair to say he was impressed. Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, this week, Law really raved about the chemistry between them and a few other impressive things he had picked up on.

Strong relationship and no dodging the tough questions

“There’s obviously a good working chemistry between them, and I’ve got to say that having sat down with them for a long time and spoken with them for a long time I was a lot more confident that they are on the same page and that they can and are working well together,” Law explained.

“When I started to bring up Conor Gallagher and the academy and stuff, there was no rush to move on. They didn’t get annoyed when they were talking about those things, and they didn’t try to move on to another subject very quickly when we were talking about all that, and I found them to be quite refreshingly open in terms of being prepared to answer questions pretty much about everything.”

In that case, our question for Law is why he didn’t push a lot harder on those topics. If they were happy to talk about Gallagher and academy players, why not question them more on it? The whole interview felt a bit like a puff piece, without any hard questions thrown at them. The fact they were apparently happy to speak openly makes that even harder to understand.
