After the Ballon d’Or was canceled last year due to Corona, France Football will present the prestigious award again this year. Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski is one of the short-listed favorites. However, the Pole himself believes that Lionel Messi will make the running.
With the European Football Championship and the Copa America, the two most important international tournaments have already been held this year. Many players have been able to play their way into the spotlight, with Lionel Messi in particular leaving a lasting impression with his strong performances at the Copa and his success with Argentina. Not only fans, media and experts now see the 34-year-old as the top favorite to win the Ballon d’Or in 2021, but Robert Lewandowski also expects Messi to win the golden ball.
Speaking to the portal “Sportbible”, the 32-year-old striker had this to say about Messi and the 2021 Ballon d’Or: “After what happened at the Copa America, I think it will be even more difficult to win the Ballon d’Or.” Curiously, Lewandowski has no real problem losing to Messi: “But I don’t mind losing it to the best player of all time.”
For Messi, it would be his seventh Ballon d’Or award. The Argentine is already the record winner with six victories.
