An image circulating on social media on Thursday evening has piqued widespread attentions across the fanbase of La Liga giants Barcelona.

This comes amid fresh excitement surrounding the potential arrival of one of world football’s most recognisable names in Catalunya’s capital.

The player in question? Matthijs de Ligt.

Defender De Ligt has of course been hotly tipped to link up with Barcelona throughout his career, with the powers that be behind the scenes at the Camp Nou understood to hold the Dutch international in altogether high regard.

Amid what has proven a difficult season to date in Germany with Bayern Munich, speculation surrounding a potential Blaugrana switch for the 24-year-old, in turn, has begun to spread once more.

And such reports are no doubt set to be kicked into overdrive over the course of the days ahead.

This comes after De Ligt was spotted in Barcelona, enjoying a day at the beach with fellow countryman and current Barca star Frenkie de Jong.

Coincidentally, or perhaps not, as much comes just 24 hours on from the talented defender’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, sitting down for a meeting with Barcelona sporting director Deco.

De Ligt’s trip to Spain could of course come as little more than a short vacation, but its timing means that ties with his uncertain future are frankly unavoidable.
