Almost four years ago, Hansi Flick won the treble with FC Bayern, only to part ways just one year later due to ongoing differences of opinion. According to the latest reports, the successful coach could return in the summer.
FC Bayern’s search for a coach is going anything but smoothly. The Munich club actually wanted to present a successor to Thomas Tuchel by the end of April. They have clearly missed this target. It is still completely unclear who will be on the FCB coaching bench in the new season.
However, the record champions have suffered one setback after another in recent weeks. As Sky reports, the flood of cancellations could bring the name of Hansi Flick into Bayern’s focus. Even if Flick is leaning towards a coaching job abroad, the pay-TV broadcaster says he is not ruling out a comeback at the Isar.
The former national coach left Bayern for the DFB in 2021. At the time, Flick announced his voluntary retirement following ongoing disputes with former sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Salihamidzic is gone and Flick is also said to have spoken to club patron Uli Hoeneß some time ago. Theoretically, nothing stands in the way of a return.
According to Sky, the 59-year-old would be willing to return to Säbener Straße „under certain circumstances“. It remains to be seen what these conditions are.
One thing is clear: Bayern must currently consider and examine every plausible option. This certainly includes Flick. He is without a club and would therefore be available immediately. In addition, Flick knows large parts of the team and the structures at FC Bayern. However, the sixth-tuple coach does not appear to be a top candidate in Munich, but rather a kind of emergency solution.
