Everton have been struggling continuously in the last few seasons in the Premier League. The club, who were once known for making it to the top half, are now struggling to stay afloat in the Premier League. Due to frequent coaching changes, unstable strategy and inexperienced players, the team could not get stability as were required. The return of David Moyes as manager certainly raised some hope, but the improvement in the table has not been as fast as expected. This time, the club have decided that they will have to strengthen the backbone of the midfield again.
Looking at the team’s performance, it is clear that there is a lack of energy in the midfield. Due to the departure of Abdoulaye Doucoure and the ageing of Idrissa Gueye, the team now need a player who has a tireless work ethic in the midfield. This time, the board has looked at young talent instead of experienced names. Everton want to balance experience and enthusiasm this time.

According to a Spanish report, Fichajes, Everton are now looking to sign 23-year-old midfielder Dion Lopy from UD Almeria. Talks between the club and the player are said to be in the final stages, and a deal worth around €25 million is on the verge of being agreed. According to the report, Lopy has begun preparations to leave Almeria and, unless something goes wrong, he could be on his way to Merseyside within days.
Lopy is physically strong, quick in the tackle and has strong positional awareness. He is a master of keeping possession of the ball and is very disciplined in providing coverage to the defence. Lopy has age and hunger—something a club like Everton need right now.
Everton need a player who not only adds depth to the midfield but can also hold that position for the next three or four years. Dion Lopy fits this profile. His athleticism, involvement in high pressing and quick recovery match Everton’s current needs. Idrissa Gueye could be used as a mentor, and Lopy could slowly be built up as a regular player.
€25 million might seem like a high price tag, especially at a time when the club’s finances are not normal, but the investment does not seem risky. Lopy has consistently performed well for Almeria in the second division, and he seems mentally ready for the transition.
If Everton use him correctly, he could become a trusted name in the Premier League in the future. It could be a smart move for the Toffees, provided they give him both a free hand and time.
