He scored a surprise goal in the second minute of the game to give his side a dream start to the contest.
Mali then doubled their lead through Ibrahima Kone, netting his third penalty of the competition after a foul on Moussa Doumbia.
The win means Mali are top of their group and sailing into the knockout stages of the competition.
Mauritania are out of the competition, managing zero points from their three group games.
