AFC Wimbledon are casting their eyes over Portsmouth midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe, as per a tweet from journalist Andrew Moon.

Tunnicliffe is currently down the pecking order at Fratton Park, with Pompey making some strong additions in midfield areas during the summer.

As well as already having Louis Thompson and Joe Morrell within their ranks, Danny Cowley added Marlon Pack and Tom Lowery during the summer, with the pair ahead of the former Manchester United academy graduate as things stand.

Interestingly, Portsmouth have recently been credited with an interest in Wimbledon midfielder Luke McCormick, as per a Patreon report from journalist Alan Nixon, as it remains to be seen if this latest story could connect.

Tunnicliffe featured 30 times in the league for Pompey last time around, scoring two goals and providing a further six assists in that time.

The verdict

This would represent a major coup if Wimbledon are able to sign the 29-year-old, with Tunnicliffe certainly good enough to still be playing regularly in League One.

Amidst lots of youthful talent, Tunnicliffe would bring lots of experience that could help the Dons mount somewhat of a promotion push during this fourth-tier campaign.

It will be interesting to see if Portsmouth try to accelerate this move and try to agree a deal that would involve McCormick, as the 23-year-old is also someone who is above League Two level.

A proper number eight, Tunnicliffe is a workhorse who can get forward and contribute in the final third, whilst he can also shine when required to fulfil more defensive duties.
