He may have made the difference for France on Sunday, but according to an ex-defender for the French national team, Adrien Rabiot (29) likely won’t change Olympique de Marseille.
Those words were from Éric Di Meco, who appeared on Rothen S’enflamme Monday to discuss what kind of impact the 2022 World Cup runner-up will have in the long term with Les Phocéens.
“Adrien Rabiot is a high-level player who will do a lot of good here (at Marseille), and around him, he’s got teammates that play at a high level, but it’s not him who’s going to change the team I don’t think,” says Di Meco.
Fellow French pundit and former international Christophe Dugarry believed that besides his two goals, he didn’t see many incredible things from the former Juventus midfielder.
According to the show’s host, Jérôme Rothen, processing the ball slowly up the field is exactly how Marseille boss Robert De Zerbi should employ the former Serie A champion.
Dugarry says it would be a failure for the French club and Rabiot if the ex-Juventus captain cannot impact the nine-time Ligue 1 winners in some way.
Rabiot has featured in six league fixtures for Marseille this season, playing the full 90 minutes in those last four affairs, with his team losing two of their last three matches in the competition.
After 11 matchdays, OM sit third in the Ligue 1 table with 20 points and will head to Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday for a date with RC Lens.
