Adrien Rabiot has been one of the key leaders of this Olympique de Marseille side that will return to Champions League football for the 2025-2026 season, the Frenchman sat down with The Athletic in a wide-ranging interview, and he notably discussed Mason Greenwood’s first season in France. “Mason is an incredible player,” said Rabiot on the former Manchester United attacker. “If he hadn’t had all of his problems, I think he’d have an image like (Jude) Bellingham. Mason would be the star.”“Because he’s an exceptional player. He can score with his right foot and his left foot, he has an exceptional shot, he can dribble,” added the former Juventus midfielder. “We’re very lucky to have him. When he’s really focused, he does really great things.”Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United last summer in a deal worth up to €31.6m. The striker was charged with in 2022 with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. But those charges were dropped in 2023 owing to the withdrawal of key witness evidence and testimony, before he made his move to the Provence region. The Englishman finished the season with 21 goals, breaking the record of the most goals in a debut season for a Marseille player in the 21st century, ahead of Bafetimbi Gomis (20) and Didier Drogba (19). His goals won 16 additional points for the club – the highest of any player in Ligue 1 this season, according to Opta.GFFN | George Boxall
