The acquisition of Adnan Januzaj has proven to be a more substantial financial commitment for Sevilla than the combined costs of signing Sergio Ramos, Mariano Díaz and Boubakary Soumaré.

The Nervión club completed a total of eight summer signings ahead of the new season. Prior to Monchi’s departure, the purchase option for Loïc Badé at €12m was exercised, and the club secured full-back Adrià Pedrosa as a free agent.

Under current sporting director Víctor Orta, investments included approximately €10m in Djibril Sow, the free acquisition of Ørjan Nyland, and a significant summer investment of around €10m in Dodi Lukébakio. On the final day of the window, Soumaré arrived on loan, Mariano Díaz joined for free, and Sergio Ramos, who had been without a team all summer, was also welcomed back to his boyhood club.

Meanwhile, Januzaj, who played his first game of the season on Tuesday, was signed by Monchi in the summer of 2022 as a free agent, resulting in a high annual wage. To put it in perspective, the combined costs of Díaz, Soumaré and Ramos barely reach 80% of Januzaj’s annual cost for the Andalusian club, per ED.
