French World Cup winner Adil Rami, now playing at Troyes, has taken to social media to criticise Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, in particular over his taunting of Kylian Mbappé in the wake of Sunday night’s dramatic final. Martínez notably called for “a minute of silence” during the dressing room celebrations, after consoling the forward on the pitch beforehand, and held aloft a doll with Mbappé’s face on it during yesterday’s open-top bus parade through Buenos Aires.
In a story posted on his Instagram account, the former Valencia and Milan man branded the Albiceleste shotstopper as “the biggest son of a […] in football. The most hated man.”
In subsequent posts, the defender goes on to state that he believed Morocco’s Yassine Bounou should have won the Golden Glove award. The Atlas Lions man conceded three goals fewer across the tournament.
He then goes on to end the series of posts with a message of support for Mbappé, claiming that the Paris Saint-Germain forward has “traumatised” his opponents to the point that they are celebrating the fact that they beat him more than winning the World Cup itself.
