The release of a ball is always a landmark moment in the countdown to a new tournament and we have reached that time again, with adidas revealing the OCEAUNZ ball that will be used for this summer’s Women’s World Cup.
“The design takes visual inspiration from nature, paying homage to the vast Australasian landscape,” adidas say in a press release.
“Set on a white pearlescent background, OCEAUNZ’s design features a decoration of blues and greens, inspired by the unique Australasian landscape, with visuals nodding to the vast mountains of New Zealand and Australia’s connection with the Indian Ocean.”
Stunning images of the ball in both countries have been released.
Like the men’s World Cup this winter, the ball features an internal suspension system with a motion sensor that will, among other things, be used for semi-automated offsides.
The release of the ball always came with the announcement that 1% of global net sales will go to the Common Goal Movement.
That money will be “pledged solely to projects driving gender equity in football by supporting grassroots initiatives that increase access to the sport for women and girls, on and off the pitch.”
