Last season was a breakthrough for Maghnes Akliouche (22) and this season, he is proving it wasn’t simply a flash-in-the-pan. He has already reached last season’s tally for assists (four), whilst after Friday night’s brace against Stade Brestois, he is halfway to reaching last season’s goal tally, having already netted four in all competitions.
“He has made a huge progression. For me, he is an international-level player,” began Monaco manager Adi Hütter in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
“He can be happy that he is an example [of our academy], the same as Eliesse, who came from the Groupe Élite and is now with the pros. When I arrived last season, I saw he was a talent but when you are upfront or a No.10, you have to bring stats, and set up or score goals. He brings us lots of stats. With two goals, he was for sure the key player tonight,” he added.
Akliouche also received praise from Monaco captain Denis Zakaria. “We see him progressing,” said the Swiss international, who made his return from injury in the 3-2 win at the Stade Louis II. “He is a different player to the one from the start of last season. Before he was a bit of a ‘kid’ but he has matured. In his game, he often makes the right decisions. He is really a very good player,” he added.
