Ademola Lookman has officially handed in a transfer request at Atalanta as the Nigerian star seeks to force a move to Serie A giants Inter Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Lookman’s request comes in the wake of Atalanta’s recent rejection of Inter’s improved bid of a guaranteed €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons.

The Bergamo outfit, who value their talismanic forward at a minimum of €50 million, have so far stood firm, despite a personal agreement already having been reached between Lookman and Inter for a five-year contract worth €4.5 million per season.

Despite Atalanta’s rigid stance, Inter remain determined to secure the forward, with Nerazzurri president Giuseppe Marotta confirming ongoing negotiations and expressing optimism that a deal can be struck.

Inter have made Lookman their number-one target to further reinforce the attack, with the likes of Christopher Nkunku only considered backup options at the moment.

For Lookman, the move to Inter Milan represents a chance to play for a club with major domestic and European ambitions, and he has grown frustrated by Atalanta’s uncompromising stance.

The Nigerian star has been left out of Atalanta’s squad for recent pre-season games and recently deleted posts related to Atalanta from his social media profiles, signalling a growing rift between club and player.

Lookman’s decision to formally request a transfer mounts pressure on Atalanta, and it remains to be seen if La Dea will soften their position and avoid a sour end to what has undoubtedly been a largely enjoyable stint at the Gewiss Stadium for the 27-year-old.
