Adam Ounas’ Lille career is over

Paulo Fonseca has all but confirmed that Adam Ounas’ (27) career as a Lille OSC player is over. With the Algerian international’s (21 caps, five goals) contract at the club expiring at the end of the season, Fonseca confirmed during a press conference on Saturday that Ounas would not feature between now and the end of the season.

Whilst injuries have blighted Ounas’ time at Lille, the reason for his current exile is attributed to a lack of commitment and intensity in training. Prior to LOSC’s UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final against Aston Villa, Fonseca initially, did not count on Ounas, until Edon Zhegrova’s ankle injury saw Fonseca recall the Algerian. However, he did not play.

Ounas hasn’t played for Lille since 5th April and within the last week, he has played for the club’s reserve side in the National 3. It is only in France’s fifth tier that Ounas will have any chance of playing, with Fonseca confirming on Saturday that the winger will not be recalled. With his contract expiring and no extension forthcoming, Ounas’ career at Lille is now effectively over.
