Adam Aznou has been tipped for a great future at Bayern Munich. The now 18-year-old has convinced others of his merits when he played for Bayern's youth teams and he has even played for Morocco's first team on three occasions already.
In order to gain more top level experience, Bayern loaned Aznou out to Spanish club Real Valladolid in the beginning of this year, where he played 13 games this season.
Aznou has become a regular for Morocco, but he was deliberately left out of the most recent call-up for the upcoming friendly games in June. Morocco coach Walid Regragui explained this decision accordingly:
“We received calls from several clubs about releasing players and we insisted on their presence. But in Aznou's case, I allowed him to stay with Bayern. It's a major chance for him to earn his place at the Club World Cup.”
With Bayern's starting leftback Alphonso Davies and rotation option Hiroki Ito both being injured, Aznou could very well challenge for the leftback spot in the upcoming weeks. Raphaël Guerreiro is of course still an option for coach Vincent Kompany, but he might give Aznou the opportunity to prove himself in the first team.
“I know his quality - and this serves the national team in the long run. This camp is a chance to look at other players. Aznou needs to push for his future - and that will benefit Morocco when he returns stronger”, said Regragui about the young leftback.
Aznou's inclusion in Bayern's Club World Cup squad is not only a chance for him to break through in his own club, but also a big chance for Morocco to get one of their young talents playing regularly in one of the best teams in Europe.
Bayern's sporting director Christoph Freund also commented on Aznou's return to the Bayern squad:
“Adam [Aznou] gained valuable experience at Real Valladolid and has developed very well. His consistent playing time proves that he has been able to hold his own at this high level. We now want to bring him closer to our first team at the Club World Cup so he can take the next steps.”
Will Morocco's plan with Aznou work and can he follow in the footsteps of Jamal Musiala and Aleksandar Pavlović and be the next Bayern talent to get into the first team? Only time will tell.
