After 14 years at Real Madrid and an unbelievable two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, Achraf Hakimi completed his €40m move to Inter Milan on Thursday.
Though the Morocco international would have been an incredible first-team addition this season, there was no guarantee that he would overtake Dani Carvajal at the right-back position and decided to leave after making only 17 first-team appearances.
“I never thought this moment would come. It’s not good-bye because you never say good-bye to your home, you might go far from it but it will always be the place where I found happiness and the values that made me grow.
“Real Madrid is my home, I was raised, spoiled and educated there to be the person I am today. Real Madrid is not only about developing athletes. I entered the doors at Valdebebas being a six-year old and definitely I could never imagine how happy I was going to be there.
“I want to thank every one of the club workers, my coaches and all my teammates —most of them truly friends— that made this journey alongside me.
“Last, I also want to thank the madridistas that supported me and that will keep supporting the club every single time. I will now be one of them.
“Thanks a lot Real Madrid!”
This season with Dortmund, Achraf was phenomenal, scoring nine goals and dishing out 10 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.
