Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has been forced to pull out of the Italy squad for EURO 2024 due to injury, so Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti is called up instead.

The group is meant to meet up at the Coverciano training ground on Friday to begin working towards the tournament in Germany.

Luciano Spalletti had called up a 30-man long-list, which will need to be whittled down to 26 for the competition in earnest.

Acerbi had been included after winning the Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana with Inter this season, but a statement on the FIGC website confirms he has had to pull out due to groin pain.

It is reported he will have surgery on Friday to fully resolve the issue for the start of next season.

Spalletti has put Juventus defender Gatti on alert instead and it remains to be seen if he’ll actually be called up to join the others or not.

Italy will face Albania, Spain and Croatia in the group stage.
