The latest edition of the long-standing Serie A rivalry between AC Milan and Juventus takes place at the Stadio San Siro on Saturday evening.

Stefano Pioli’s Milan have returned from the international break with a vengeance, pulling off a 3-1 win at Empoli in response to a morale-damaging 2-1 home loss to fellow Scudetto hopefuls Napoli.

However, the reigning Italian champions have to bounce back again after succumbing to a dreadful 3-0 defeat at Chelsea in midweek Champions League action.

Crippled by numerous high-profile injuries, the Rossoneri failed to seize the top spot in Group E, but there’s no time to moan as resurgent Juventus arrive at San Siro.

September wasn’t kind to Massimiliano Allegri’s team as they went winless in all five competitive outings last month (D2, L3), including back-to-back defeats at the start of the new Champions League season.

But inspired by marquee summer signing Angel Di Maria, the record-time Serie A champions claimed a crucial 3-1 home triumph over Group H whipping boys Maccabi Haifa on Wednesday.

The Argentine winger, who picked up a red card during Juventus’ dismal 1-0 loss at Serie A debutants Monza on the eve of the international break, delivered a hat-trick of assists against the Israeli side.

But Di Maria won’t be available for selection, meaning the Bianconeri will have to turn to Dusan Vlahovic to lead the charge as they look to improve an unfathomable seven-game H2H form against Milan (W1, D4, L2).

Match Preview

AC Milan

Except for the abovementioned disappointment against Napoli, Milan have enjoyed an almost perfect eight-game start to their Serie A title defence (W5, D2).

Seeking back-to-back league crowns for the first time in the new millennium, Milan’s Scudetto hopes are still alive as they enter this round three points adrift of table-topping Napoli.

Manager Pioli faces the prospect of losing consecutive Serie A home fixtures for the first time in charge of Milan but can draw confidence from going unbeaten in four of his last five games against Juventus (W2, D2).

Juventus

It seems that September’s international break did plenty of good for Allegri’s men as they came out victorious in their first Serie A match in October, beating bottom-half Bologna 3-0 in Turin.

But playing outside the Allianz Stadium has been Juventus’ Achilles heel this season. After drawing their opening two league outings on the road, they lost to Monza on their most recent top-flight travel.

Another failed attempt to wrap up all three points would see the Bianconeri go winless in their first four away matches of a new Serie A campaign for only the second time in 40 years.

AC Milan vs Juventus Prediction

Milan and Juventus have reached the point where the bragging rights are no longer significant as both desperately search for a victory to consolidate their Scudetto pursuit.

Connoisseurs of action-packed football won’t be overly enthusiastic about this fixture as both last season’s meetings between these two sides yielded low-scoring draws.

We expect another identical result.
