AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is facing the prospect of an extended suspension after his clash with Inter’s Romelu Lukaku during the Coppa Italia Quarter-Final on Tuesday.
Inter came from behind to seal a 2-1 victory with a stoppage time Christian Eriksen freekick at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, after Lukaku’s second half penalty cancelled out an early Ibrahimovic goal.
However, the match was overshadowed by a blazing row between the former Manchester United teammates shortly before half-time and both players were booked, before Ibrahimovic was later sent off for a challenge on Aleksandr Kolarov.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Stampa, Ibrahimovic faces the possibility of his automatic one match suspension being extended as a disciplinary panel assess video footage of the clash.
The Milan striker was heard making reference to “voodoo” in his argument with Lukaku and now risks a 10 day ban, applicable to all competitions, with the panel to determine if it was a racial slur.
Both Ibrahimovic and Milan deny that the comment carried any racial connotations.
